🧭 Laurence-ism:

“The Right Bus Won’t Pass You By.”

There’s this quiet fear that shows up for a lot of high performers. Even the ones who look confident. Even the ones doing “well” on paper.

“What if I missed it?”

The job.
The partner.
The breakthrough.
The moment.

But here’s the truth to remember:

If it was yours, it wouldn’t have left without you.
You don’t miss what’s truly aligned with you, in fact, you grow into it.

🔁 In Coaching Conversations...

I’ve seen VPs spiral after a promotion slipped through their fingers, only to land a role three months later that paid more and gave them their evenings back.

I’ve worked with founders who left a product they thought would change everything, only to discover the clarity that built something far more sustainable.

And I’ve sat with clients holding on to relationships they’d outgrown, not because they were deeply in love, but because they were deeply afraid they’d never feel love again.

Here’s what I always say:

Settling is not the same as staying ready.”

🎬 Matthew McConaughey & The Role That Waited

For years, Matthew McConaughey was the face of romantic comedies. Box office gold. Charisma on autopilot. He could cash a $5M–$8M check just by showing up, smiling, and playing “the guy.”

Then he disappeared. Not because the offers stopped. But because he stopped saying yes. He realized he didn’t want to be that guy anymore. Not because the roles weren’t successful. But because they no longer reflected the man or artist he was becoming.

Then came the moment:
He was offered $14.5 million to star in another formulaic rom-com.
Huge payday. Big exposure. Easy press.

But something in him said no.
He turned it down.

Not because he had a better offer lined up.
Not because the next opportunity was guaranteed.
But because he believed in the version of himself he hadn’t fully stepped into yet.

Two years passed. Silence. Criticism. Uncertainty. Fear.
Then came The Lincoln Lawyer. Then True Detective. Then Dallas Buyers Club.
Then…an Oscar.

He didn’t miss the moment.
He waited for the right one.
And when it came, he was ready.

🧠 Ask Yourself:

  • Am I chasing roles I’ve outgrown just because they’re available?

  • Am I filling space instead of making room for alignment?

  • Is this pause punishment or preparation?

Because the truth is:

You’re not behind.
You’re not late.
You’re not forgotten.

The right role won’t pass you by.
But it might require you to pause, to rise, or to become someone bolder.

The right bus is coming. You’ll know it when it arrives.
And when it does, you won’t miss it.

🚀 Let’s Go Further

This week, trust that patience can be powerful.
That action doesn’t always mean acceleration.
And that readiness is built in the waiting.

Tips to Go Further: Take a Breath…

I just wrapped up an incredible stretch of coaching with the United Airlines team, from California to DC, and here’s something I want to share with you:

Even after all these reps, I still get nervous.
Every single time.

There’s a flicker of nerves right before I walk into the room.
And I welcome it, because it means I care. Truly.

When I’m headed into a high-stakes session, whether it’s a keynote, an all-day leadership workshop, or an executive roundtable, I always take a moment to reset. Nothing fancy. No elaborate rituals.

Just box breathing:
Inhale for 4.
Hold for 4.
Exhale for 4.
Hold for 4.
Repeat.

It’s simple, grounding, and always available.
It turns pressure into presence.

I’m deeply grateful to my trusted decision-maker at United Airlines, who I’ve had the pleasure of knowing for a few years now. She and her phenomenal team lead the loyalty division and trust me to embody her vision and execute in the room. “Pressure is a privilege.” It means much is expected of you because others believe in you. I don’t take that for granted.

Tools to Go Further: The Pareto Principle

As a coach, there are always a so many different responsibilities and parts of my business I can be growing at any given time. It can be difficult to find clarity in terms of my next move, but the Pareto principle has been crucial in guiding my actions and informing how I prioritize. Essentially, 20% of the actions you take can drive 80% of the results. For me, this means doubling down on the work I know aligns most closely with my goals, prioritizing relationship building and growing through more organic means.

Give it try next time you’re seeking clarity on your next move.

If any of these above strategies or words resonate with you, please feel free to leave a comment, send a message or as always reach out.

Thank you as always for taking the time with us and it matters a lot. We’ll see you next issue!
