Going Further: The Coaching Newsletter

Our Inaugural Issue! What To Expect: What We Promise & How To Live, Lead & Love Better!

First, A Massive Thank You!

I founded Go Further Coaching on the basis of taking people from where they are, to exactly where they want to be. From my very first days in kindergarten I have loved to help people. It’s who I am. It’s my purpose. I have always envisioned myself a guide, a reliable advisor, a confidante and the ultimate motivator and coach. Part Rafiki and part Simba from “The Lion King” (this defintely makes gramps my Mufasa)! I genuinely love seeing people win. This newsletter is my way of thanking you all for being with me along this journey.

I’m building this for you, and want to make sure I’m delivering value with every issue we drop. If there is any additional content you’d like to see, (or see less of) or inspiration or stories you have, please feel free to leave a suggestion for us with this form.

More About Coaching

The coaching industry is full of noise, and it can be difficult to identify when you might want to engage a coach. There are a LOT of unqualified folks running around calling themselves coaches and a lot of people and companies who truly need good coaching. According to Harvard Business School, the top three reasons why someone might work with a coach is to “develop high potentials or facilitate transition (48%), act as a sounding board (26%), and to address derailing behavior (12%).” Whether you’re making a major career jump or need to think through a big decision, executive coaches are crucial to providing expert insights.

Ignore Your Buts

-Laurence Anthony

Everything we want in our lives comes before the word “but.” It’s a simple one-syllable, three letter word that has more power than many words twice it’s length. I’ve noticed this pattern while coaching my clients; talking with friends and family; and observing the actions and words of strangers. I’d like to share a lesson and observation I’ve made.

We’re all guilty of statements that sound similar to this:
“I want to lose weight, but I hate going to the gym early,”
“I really want to earn more this year, but I don’t want to work on the weekends,”
“I want to have a better marriage or relationship, but I don’t want to change who I am,”
“I want to play more with my kids, but I’m tired,”
“I want to do that thing I’ve always wanted to do, but what if it doesn’t work out.”

Each of us knows what we truly want. We hear it as a whisper, in a dream, while we're driving alone, while we're working out, and sometimes when talking to our friends and those close to us. Some of us have known what it is since we've been children. The challenge is turning that whisper into a powerful voice…into our purpose. Many people ignore it out of fear, doubt, or disbelief. The truth is everything we want in life precedes the word “but.” Everything that proceeds the word “but” is an excuse, or fear, and/or lie we tell ourselves not to embrace our truth. This doesn’t mean actions or new chapters aren’t scary. They are. It simply means we give more weight to our desired goal than we do to the various reasons or excuses (real or imaginary) that could prevent us from achieving that goal.

Acknowledge your “but.” Go ahead. Look at it. Stare at it. Done? Great. Now, do everything within your power to ignore it, defeat it and push past it to get to your goal. All “buts” do is slow us down. If you want to achieve anything in business and in life…listen and act on everything before you say “but.”

This is how you go further.

Tips for Going Further: Here’s one step you can take to make sure you go the extra mile.

Time Your Morning Coffee

Try timing your morning cup of coffee for around an hour after you wake up! Not immediately, not two hours before…1 hour! Studies show that this simple practice allows your body’s natural cortisol (the stress hormone) levels to naturally rise and fall, leading to less anxiety throughout the day and better sleep quality.

Tools for Going Further: The Eisenhower Matrix

The Eisenhower matrix is a powerful tool to add to your arsenal, as it helps you navigate and prioritize tasks on two axes — importance and urgency. We’ve attached our version of the Eisenhower matrix below for you to download and use.
